Coming off two successful Art Shows in the past few years, Chrysalis Calgary is very excited to present our third Art Show and Sale coined “Verve”! Because of the continuing growth in demand and popularity of the artwork created in our Art Studio, Verve marks the first time we have had to host our art show and sale outside of our facility to ensure we have enough space for displays and guests! Verve will be staged on Wednesday, July 24th from 6:00 – 9:00 pm at the Windsor Park Community Hall located at 5304 6 St. SW.
Over 100 original pieces of art will be on display from 59 of artists who participate in the Art Program. We feel guests will be blown away by the quality of the pieces and encourage those interested in attending to arrive early so you don’t miss out! Of course, plenty of food and beverages will be available to our guests as you browse the displays throughout the evening.
We are especially excited about the upcoming show as it marks the first show we will be hosting with our new Art Program facilitator, Donna Harris, in place. Donna joined the Art Studio in February this year with the vision of completely transforming the program and how our artists spend their time in the studio. With an extensive background in painting and artistic creation, Donna totally transformed the studio space into an artist’s dream. One step inside the studio and it is easy to see where much of the inspiration for the artists comes from. Not only has she transformed the physical space, but Donna has also opened up the minds of the artists who participate in the program by introducing some of the classics including Picasso, Michelangelo, Dali, and Klimt. Many of the artists have paid close attention to the details of these pieces as you can see the influences of some of the classic painters showing through in their artwork.
Different techniques and textures are also being introduced in the studio so that our artists are able to expand the way they express themselves through art and allow them to try something outside of the regular paints on canvas. While these techniques are still in the early stages, you will get a taste of what is happening in the studio thanks to some of the pieces that will be on display at the Verve show.
We are very hopeful that this show will continue to expand as it has in the past but we are more excited about what the future holds for the Art Program itself. The program is now running at full capacity and the buzz around the facility is very exciting as the changes to the program have sparked a revived interest in art amongst many individuals accessing Chrysalis supports. This not only bodes well for the catalogue of artwork created in the program but for future expansion, increased exposure in the community and future ventures that may create more inclusive opportunities for our artists to share their talents!
We look forward to seeing you at the 3rd Annual Art Show and Sale, Verve, on July 24th! Should you have any questions about the show do not hesitate to contact Katrina Evanochko via email at [email protected].
